Based on the demand for more multidisciplinary arts space on the Plateau Montreal, the Mile End Cultural Centre or "MECC" was founded by group of dedicated patrons of arts and music. Since 2003 the Green Room has operated as part of the MECC.The building was formerly the headquarters of the Quebec Argentine Cultural Association and regularly held dance and music events.

The MECC has regularly been used by festivals including Fringe, Pop Montreal, M for Montreal and for the 100th Anniversary of the Main. Both The Green Room and the Main Hall have hosted many important developing artist over the years. The MECC has hosted multidisciplinary and socio-cultural events that include Poetry, Visual Arts, Filmmaking, Seminars, Weddings and public meetings. Musical artists include Anthony and the Johnsons, Martha Wainwright, Beast, The Hold Steady, Wolf Parade, and
